Sell brass in Adelaide

Brass Is Worth Sorting Properly

Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc, so it is one of the more valuable metals you can bring to a scrap yard. The rate depends on how clean it is. A bucket of solid brass fittings pays noticeably more than the same weight of taps with plastic handles and steel screws still attached.

We check every piece with you, separate clean brass from plated and mixed brass, and weigh each grade on certified scales before you are paid. Plumbers, renovators and machine shops sell brass to us every week.

What we buy

Brass We Buy

Not sure if it is brass? Yellow colour and no magnetic pull are good signs. Bring it in and we will check.

Clean yellow brass

Solid fittings, unions, valves and offcuts with no plastic, steel or plating. The best-paying brass grade.

Red brass and gunmetal

Heavier valves, pump bodies and meters with a reddish colour and higher copper content.

Chrome-plated tapware

Kitchen and bathroom taps, mixers and spouts. Mostly brass underneath the plating.

Mixed brass

Brass with steel screws, plastic handles, rubber washers or other attachments still in place.

Machining turnings

Brass swarf and turnings from machine shops. Keep it dry and free of steel and oil.

Fittings still soldered to copper pipe. Cut them off and both metals are paid at better rates.

How Brass Scrap Is Graded

Brass prices follow the copper and zinc markets, so the exact rate is confirmed at the yard. This is how the grades compare.

Why recycle

Why Recycle Brass?

Two metals in one

Brass is copper and zinc, and both are recovered when brass is remelted for new fittings and castings.

Most brass is recycled

Brass is one of the most widely recycled alloys, and new brass products commonly contain a high share of recycled metal.

Clean brass goes further

Removing steel screws and plastic handles means the brass can be remelted with less processing, which is why clean brass pays more.

Before you visit

How to Get a Better Price for Your Brass

Five minutes with a screwdriver often moves brass up a grade.

Remove steel screws and handles

Unscrew steel and plastic handles and take out rubber washers where it is easy and safe to do.

Cut fittings off copper pipe

Brass on copper pipe drags both metals down. Cut them apart and each is paid at its own rate.

Keep plated and clean apart

Bag chrome-plated taps separately from clean fittings so the clean brass is not averaged down.

Use a magnet

If a magnet sticks, it is steel or has steel inside. Pull those pieces out before you load up.

Brass is priced by grade and follows the copper and zinc markets. Clean yellow brass and red brass pay more than chrome-plated brass or brass with steel and plastic attached. Our brass price guide shows this week's indicative ranges, and the final rate is confirmed at the yard.

Brass is yellow or gold in colour and is harder than copper. Copper is reddish-orange. A magnet will not stick to either, which helps you separate them from steel.

Yes. Chrome-plated tapware is mostly brass underneath. It is graded a little lower than clean brass because of the plating and any plastic or steel parts.

If you can do it safely, yes. Steel screws, plastic handles and rubber washers lower the grade. Anything you cannot remove is still accepted and graded accordingly.

Yes. Bring current photo ID. We record seller details for every sale.
